The science behind the treatment

Biology and Management of Spiders

Spiders are predatory arachnids, not insects, and the vast majority found in Indian homes are harmless to humans — in fact, they are one of the more beneficial pests to have around, quietly controlling flies, mosquitoes and cockroach nymphs. Management is therefore mostly about cobweb removal and reducing the insect prey that draws them indoors, rather than aggressive elimination.

Kingdom: AnimaliaPhylum: ArthropodaClass: ArachnidaOrder: Araneae

Life cycle

Egg sac hatch

2–4 weeks

Spiderling to maturity

A few months to 2 years, depending on species

Adult lifespan

1–2 years, often longer for females

Signs of infestation

  • Visible cobwebs in ceiling corners, storage rooms or undisturbed furniture
  • Silk egg sacs in similar locations
  • Live spiders spotted in basements, garages or store rooms
  • Rising insect activity elsewhere in the home, which draws spiders in

Integrated management approach

Inspection

  • Ceiling corners, storage rooms and balconies
  • Staircases and outdoor eaves

Preventive measures

  • Reduce clutter — fewer hiding spots for both spiders and their prey
  • Control other indoor insects to remove the food source
  • Regular cleaning to remove webs before egg sacs mature

Monitoring

  • Visual cobweb and egg-sac count on scheduled visits

Treatment

  • Full cobweb removal at ceilings and corners
  • Residual spray on entry cracks and window frames
  • Insect-source control to remove the underlying food supply

Because most household spiders are harmless and even beneficial, our protocol focuses on removing webs and egg sacs and treating the insect problem that attracts them — giving lasting, low-chemical control rather than a one-off spray that leaves the underlying food source untouched.
